Hackathon Team Tries to Teach a uFactory Robot Arm to Juggle

Reading lead

Mandy Meindersma, Jie Xuan Tang and Aika K explored whether a uFactory robot arm could juggle, as a project from Viam’s Fine Motor Skills Hackathon in September 2026. The article describes a challenge in moving from the arm’s precision-oriented use to fast, ballistic motion and reports the team’s own assessment: the task was much harder than expected. The project code is available on GitHub for inspection. The supplied material does not provide details about the robot model, juggling setup, control method, successful performance, measurements or repeatability, so it does not establish that the arm achieved reliable juggling or quantify its capabilities.

Mandy Meindersma posted a project on Hackster.io that asks a simple question: can a uFactory robot arm juggle? The arm is known for precision. Fast, ballistic motion is a different problem.

The work came out of Viam’s Fine Motor Skills Hackathon in September 2026. Meindersma teamed up with Jie Xuan Tang and Aika K to find out. Their own summary of the result: much harder than they thought.

The code is up for anyone who wants to look at how they drove the arm.
